"Bref 2": Régine's version of "I will survive" explodes on Spotify thanks to the series

A 1000% increase in Spotify listens for the song Je survivrai , performed by Régine in 1978. The title thus rises to second position in Spotify's viral top 50. Why such success? It's the Bref effect, for this French cover of Gloria Gaynor's disco hit. Régine's version is one of the many covers of the song written by Freddie Perren and Dino Fekaris.
This song, coupled with a line from the narrator, "He needed to sit for 30 seconds, he sat for 20 years," particularly hit home with viewers.
Widely used on TikTok, Régine's song is often associated with this line, which particularly touches the Bref audience. It is difficult not to recognize yourself in the doubts and questions of the hero played by Kyan Khojandi, who has reached 40 without having done much with his life. This sentence echoes the existential anxieties about the passing of time.
"How to speak to an entire generation. This sentence in 'Bref 2' is far too striking," notes DJ Axoma on Instagram.
According to Disney, Bref season 2 is the "most viewed" series in France on the platform. Broadcast since February 14, the series explores with humor and sensitivity the questioning of the main character. Kyan Khojandi, co-creator of the series, is surrounded by a host of actors, from Laura Felpin to Jean-Paul Rouve, including Doria Tillier.
Originally broadcast on Canal+, this series, made up of 82 episodes of less than two minutes, chronicles the daily life of a thirty-something. Despite its success, Kyan Khojandi decided to end the adventure after only one year. A third season is now "under consideration," producer Harry Tordjman told AFP.
Singer Régine, who passed away on May 1, 2022 at the age of 92, revisited many song standards during her long career, from Comme d'habitude to La Javanaise . She especially performed Les P'tits papiers that Serge Gainsbourg wrote for her.
